When Everything Clicks

At 10:30 last night, on our way home from dinner with new friends, Darrin and I got stuck for 45 minutes behind a stopped train.  Being the passenger, Darrin was lucky enough to fall asleep.  I stayed awake, listening to Pandora and watching the flashing red lights of the train.  I was tired, and anxious to get home to bed, but the quiet down time actually felt nice.

I thought about the past few weeks, the frenzy of activity coming off Christmas and New Year's, plus a weekend camping away from home.  We've been so busy with chores, work, replacing our heating/air conditioning unit and all our duct work at home, school and spelling tests, vision therapy and nightly activities to strengthen Ben's eyes, and visiting with family and friends.  The days have just flown by.

And yet, things are really good right now in our lives.  We hired some help for weekday mornings, so I can get to work early, but the kids can still sleep in and have a hot breakfast at home before school.  These extra morning hours have helped me catch up at work, making me feel like I'm getting back on my game.  Even though the economy's rough, our team is working so well together, and even having fun and landing new projects.  Darrin has been helping me even more than usual in the evenings so I can work with the kids on their homework and with Ben on his vision therapy.  And with the exception of Lia having a tough adjustment to Mom not being home in the mornings, the kids have been so good and getting along with each other so well.

When everything runs this smoothly, it doesn't give me much to write about on my blog.  I do miss telling stories of our family's crazy antics, but I have to say I am enjoying the quiet very much.

At 11:15 last night the train finally started moving.  I looked over at my sleeping husband and smiled.  I am so blessed, and so happy.  As the train pulled out of view, I headed for home, ready to crawl into our cozy bed together, and excited to be woken up in the morning by the giggles and cuddles of our two amazing children.
