One of the hardest parts about being Feingold is knowing that kids bring treats into the classroom ALL THE TIME - for birthdays, holidays, spring parties, 100th day of school parties, etc. Heck, even the teachers seem to hand out treats for good behavior or answering a question correctly.
I absolutely hate the thought of Ben sitting there with no treat on his desk, watching the other kids enjoy cupcakes. So last year I gave Ben's teacher, Mr. H, a huge supply of non-perishable treats that Ben could choose from when the kids were eating the other stuff.
But this year, Indie Candy (the website where I buy our approved gummy candy) sells Back To School Buckets, personalized for the kids. I was able to tell them that Ben is Feingold Stage 1, and his bucket came with all things he could have.
Then it dawned on me that I have to make a decision about Lia now that she is starting Kindergarten. Clearly her behavior is not food dependent like Ben's, so in theory she could eat the stuff that other kids bring in. But do I want her to, knowing what I now know about artificial ingredients? And do I want her coming home talking about the cupcakes she had or the candy? So I ordered Lia a Back To School Bucket too.
And both kids were so excited when I showed them! Whew, one less thing to worry about with the upcoming school year.
