We had to break up the journey by stopping along the way to be tourists. Two kids in the motorhome for eight hours is enough to drive anyone crazy. Our first stop was Beacon Rock, one of the milestones in the exploration of Lewis and Clark. There is a switchback path leading 0.9 miles to the top of the Rock and we went for it.
Then we drove a few more miles to the waterfalls (for the life of me I can't remember the name - Mulholmoth?). Of course Ben wanted to hike to the top of these too, but we declined and told him we'd do it next year.
Our plan was to find somewhere to camp here, but we didn't keep in mind that it was Thursday before the 4th of July weekend and there was not a camp site to be found. Darrin thought maybe we'd drive all the way home, but that would have gotten us home at five in the morning, so we found a lovely KOA campground near Corvallis and parked for the night. And now, we're on the road again, with 533 miles left until home. Lord, please grant us patience today. . . .
