When I'm stressed out and overwhelmed, my first reaction is to organize something. It doesn't have to be the something that is actually stressing me out - as long as I can go through it, purge old stuff, put new stuff into some categorical layout and establish order in my life. In the past I've done my spice cabinet (in alphabetical order), my baking supplies into labeled Rubbermaid containers, my kids' closets into tubs of sorted toys, and most recently my own bathroom cabinets and drawers.
The other day Lia went to get my brush out of my drawer and came back to say "MOMMY!! Your drawer looks BEAUTIFUL!" I replied, "Thanks, Li - Mommy organized it!" Then she said a few words that melted my heart - "Mommy, can we do MY drawer TOO?!?" Absolutely!
So I bought a set of interlocking dividers at Target the other day and Lia and I sorted her bathroom drawer. Some things didn't get to stay in the drawer and had to be put away, like: a deck of cards, a princess flashlight, princess bracelets, one of those wind up walking Easter egg things and a lil people toy. Boy does crap accumulate in childrens' drawers! Anyway, Lia (and I) are both pretty proud of the end result.
