Our trip revolved around time with my little sister, Carla, and her fiance, Evan, who live in San Diego. We got to see their cute new apartment and play with their puppy, Hank. CJ and Evan took our kids overnight so Darrin and I could have a romantic dinner at Ocean Aire in the Gaslamp District. We had such a great time visiting with Auntie Carla and Uncle Evan, we hated to leave them at the end of the week. Evan has definitely become part of the family as evidenced by the fact that our kids wouldn't leave his side whenever he was around.
Our trip also revolved around the different beaches this beautiful city has to offer. Two years ago when we visited SD, we didn't give Ben nearly enough beach time. We more than made up for it on this trip. Ben loves beaches like nothing else, so he was clearly in heaven.
The motorhome makes traveling so much easier for our family, mainly because we can cook meals instead of eating out. But we had good luck with restaurant food this week, too. Ben handles it very well when his first pick on the menu isn't always something he can have, due to one ingredient or another. But the waitress at one of my favorite restaurants in the world - Old Town Mexican Cafe - went out of her way to help us get a quesadilla with no yellow cheese. They also make their own tortillas there so I knew those were safe for Ben to eat. The result was a very happy seven year old who for at least one meal felt "normal". And we were happy parents to have a son who didn't react from something he ate at a restaurant.
But, back to the beaches.
Here are some pictures of our beach time, first at Coronado:
We also spent some time in La Jolla:
And on our last day we just hung out at the RV Park in Pacific Beach:
Oh, and we also went to Legoland and the San Diego Zoo, but I'll post about those later! I'm still busy doing laundry (and getting rid of piles of sand that came home with us).
