The V-Day Plan

My dad has always said that Valentine's Day is a "Hallmark Holiday" - made up so people will buy a bunch of greeting cards.  I'll admit, it's not my favorite holiday.  And I think people put WAY too much emphasis on it.  But still, it's nice to have a day to remind you to appreciate your special someone (if you haven't already written a blog post about them).

Darrin and I decided that instead of fighting the crowds at the local restaurants, we'd make a special dinner for ourselves to enjoy.  Our plan was to feed the kids first - all natural Annie's Mac & Cheese and Ian's Chicken Nuggets - and then put a movie on for them in the game room so we could enjoy a nice quiet dinner.

Our dinner:  Bacon wrapped Filet Mignon, porcini mushroom risotto, fresh zucchini and squash, and a nice Pinot Noir.  The food turned out beautifully.  Romance was thick in the air.  Or wait, was that actually the smell of Strawberry Shortcake dolls and the sound of Ben doing his reading homework?  Oh right, we're parents.  We have about 15 more years before we can have a romantic dinner at home.

All the same, I wouldn't trade our evening for the world.
